Healthy Hair Tips

I don’t wash my hair every single day.

I wash my hair about 3 times per week. I know its nothing new, but washing your hair too much strips your hair of the natural oils that keep it healthy. I have super fine hair that can easily look greasy, so I am reaching for dry shampoo often.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat

Why would they even put directions on the bottle? We all know how to wash our hair by now, right? Wrong. It turns out there might be something to those simple instructions that few follow. Make sure to repeat! I typically wash my hair twice in a row. This rids my follicles of any product build up. Its important to rinse away the layers upon layers of dry shampoo that I use in between washes.

Deep Condition

I like to use a deep conditioning hair mask 1-2 times per week. This keeps my hair healthy, soft, and super shiny.

I love to air-dry my hair. The less heat the better.

Years ago when I was trying to grow my hair out, I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I was relying too much on heat styling. Once I ditched the daily heat damage, my hair grew like crazy. If you simply must curl or flat iron your hair, try to skip the blow dryer. There are also tons of heat free style options on pinterest.

Always use a heat protectant

On the flip side, whenever I do use heat I protect my strands. I keep seeing more and more dual purposed products that include heat protectant. Kenra is a brand that often does this. I love a good two for one.

Use a wet brush and start at the lower half of hair. holding it in one hand to keep the pressure off of your roots.

Newsflash! I was also brushing my hair wrong. Fundamentals, right? Sheesh. Do not brush your hair while it is wet unless you are using a brush specifically made for wet hair. I use a wet brush every single time I brush my hair. I section my hair into 2, pulling it to the front. (just like if you were doing pigtails) Hold the section while you lightly brush, taking the pressure off of your roots. This helps to prevent breakage, especially at the roots.
