de stress

Stepping into the world of wedding planning is like entering an alternate universe. In this universe, $40 per plate is reasonable, ice sculptures are common, and envelope color suddenly becomes a serious decision.

Shit can get super stressful super fast.

That’s why I thought it was important to share some of my favorite ways to de stress.

yoga

I have never regretted time spent doing yoga. Even if I only have 10 or 15 minutes, a couple of yoga sequences really make a difference. It puts me in such a calm mood and helps me get centered. I have such a difficult time meditating while remaining still. I have tried and end up annoyed. Even if I am doing a super simple yoga flow, I am able to achieve a meditative state of mind.

I love Yoga with Adriene. She has a video for just about everything and you can practice in your living room. Check out her channel!

lavender essential oil

Lavender is my all time favorite essential oil. I like to add 5 or 6 drops into unscented body lotion or coconut oil and apply it before bed. If it is difficult for you to fall asleep, add lavender to an essential oil diffuser about an hour before bed to really get in a calming state of mind.

Here is the description from Doterra:

Lavender has been used and cherished for centuries for its unmistakable aroma and myriad benefits. In ancient times, the Egyptians and Romans used Lavender for bathing, relaxation, cooking, and as a perfume. Its calming and relaxing qualities, when taken internally, continue to be Lavender’s most notable attributes. Applied topically, Lavender is frequently used to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. Add to bath water to soak away stress or apply to the temples and the back of the neck. Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet to relax and prepare for a restful night’s sleep. Due to Lavender’s versatile properties, it is considered the must-have oil to have on hand at all times.

To Do List

I have a tendency to overthink things. A lot. When I feel myself getting overwhelmed and starting to overthink things, it is time to make a list. When it comes to list making I am a pen and paper girl all the way. The physical act of writing out the things that are stressing me out is cathartic.

Bonus tip: Start you list with 2 or 3 easy tasks that you are able to check off right away. I find that it really gets me motivated.

Epson salt

I love to take epsom salt baths. If I can find 15 to 20 minutes a day to soak, I will. Its so relaxing and just washes away the stress of the day.

Here’s a great excerpt from Mind Body Green:

When Epsom salt is dissolved in warm water, the magnesium is absorbed through the skin to help replenish magnesium levels in the body. Magnesium helps promote a feeling of calm and relaxation. It also increases energy and reduces irritability. Epsom salt baths can help improve your sleep and concentration.
